Research & Resources

The National Reading Campaign Aboriginal Steering Committee held its second Roundtable at the Native Canadian Centre Toronto on October 27-29, 2014.  The conference was titled “Aboriginal Readers: Best Practices & Advocacy”. The Roundtable examined ways to facilitate the creation of public libraries in Aboriginal communities and enhanced library services off reserves, what models libraries might look like on a reserve and how to advocate for these libraries and services in order to ensure greater access to reading and reading materials in Aboriginal communities.

The consensus of the Roundtable was that we should continue to focus our efforts on the goals stated after our first Roundtable in 2013:

  • Libraries in every Aboriginal community
  • Enhanced library services for Aboriginal people living in urban and rural communities
